#Imac 5k vs mac pro for video editing pro
Especially if you’re doing video work (and plan to work with stuff like ProRes, which the iPhone 13 Pro can now shoot), you will find much better performance in those laptops compared to a 27” Intel iMac, and in some cases even better than a completely maxed out Mac Pro (MKBHD did a great demo of this on his YouTube channel).ĭefinitely don’t get an Intel Mac at this point, and for video you’ll likely be happier with the performance of the new MacBook Pro’s over the 24” M1 iMac. My suggestion would be to pair one of the new MacBook Pro’s (14” or 16”) with a high quality external monitor for at home use.
#Imac 5k vs mac pro for video editing upgrade
Thoughts and suggestions? Are the iMacs upgradeable now with ram and ssd? If so, Should I go with a higher processor and upgrade the ram later on down the road? I would love a 27” iMac but that only comes with intel. Currently only the 24” iMac only comes with the M1 processor and from my understanding this new processor they have works better with native Apple apps.

The Mac Pro is quite expensive so I am leaning towards the iMac first. Only issue is that I don’t know what to buy. My main camera with be the Sony A7iv and an iPhone 13 pro and I would like to start editing videos and photo for professional work. I know that building a PC can give you better bang for your money but I’m kind of over my whole phase of building and just want to purchase something with little hassle.

My PC is pretty dated to edit 4K on and I’m really liking that Final Cut uses a non-traditional way of editing so I do plan on using that as my main video editing software instead of premier. Hey guys, I’m in the market for a new workstation.
